Posh Foul Delhi And Its Builders

100 TV channels and over a 1000 newspapers of India are replete with images and stories of abominable conditions in Delhi days before 71 nation commonwealth “olympics.”
But it is not just the games stadiums and village or projects started by the government agencies that are an embarrassing mess. All of Delhi is. Posh residential areas, rich markets, exclusive housing areas where richest of the rich live — conditions are a compliment to stone age. These conditions are not an accident. They are the making of Delhi and India’s richest. Do not believe a word when Indian elites complain. They can go on enjoying life in the middle of their own sewage.
I am attaching three images from a posh shopping area of Delhi. The daily sales of this small shopping complex are more than Groos Economic Product of some Indian cities of million inhabitants. And yet, it is an unspeakable mess. This is not of Commonwealth Games’ making or Government’s doing. This is a swank new fashion store coming up. The stores around function as usual. No one from these fashionable stores is bothered to throw even a wooden plank for people to walk - chauffeurs can drive their masters and madams right upto the stairs so a guard can help them in and out without stepping on Delhi soil.
But as you marvel at the ability of richest Indians to be blissful in the midst of such conditions — do notice the kindness, gratitude and simplicity of this labouring couple. They migrated to Delhi after losing their land and home. They do not complain. They are content to be working for RS 150 per day each. That is less than US$ 4 per day.
No doubt India’s richest can claim their “mess” provides cleanup jobs to the poorest. After all what will they do after their land has been taken for mining and industry? At least they can clean the shit after those who have stolen their land and life.
